Nice little workout…
January 28th, 2010 | Personal
By John Thornton- I was looking for a new cardio program to add to my workout so I called strength coach extraordinaire Ray Oliver. He sent me about 20 programs. They were for the treadmill, bike and elliptical machine. Tonight I tried the modified fat burning treadmill workout a little while ago and it had me beat. It seems pretty simple but getting through it was tough. If you are looking for a quick little workout, check this one out. It ranges from a walk to a fast walk, all with inclines. 35 minutes total.
5 minutes- 3.5 speed- 5 incline
5 minutes- 3.6 speed- 6 incline
5 minutes- 3.7 speed- 7 incline
5 minutes- 3.8 speed- 8 incline
5 minutes- 3.9 speed- 9 incline
5 minutes- 4.0 speed- 10 incline
5 miuntes- 3.0 speed- 0 incline

JT, do you rest at all between 5min intervals? Or do you just try to get to the next setting as quickly as possible? Sorry, Im very ignorant when it comes to work outs. I jog in the summer, and play disc-golf almost every day. So thats about as active as I get.
Ive tried Yoga a few times, and I get it but its so damn hard. Have you ever tried Yoga or maybe some other alternative work out techniques you would like to share?

Get some Kettlebells and find an RKC, you will be amazed what they will do while saving your joints and increasing your mobility. I know some NFL players use them and teams have hired Pavel Tsatsouline and his group to work with them. Indy used the Gray Cook functional movement screen and kettlebells. The Secrect Service Snatch Test with a 24kg should be required at the combine, it would be a much better test than the Bench Press.

JT,
Can you post the eliptical workouts or send them to me?
Thanks!

JT – I broke a sweat reading that!
Actually sounds like a decent plan for my out-of-shape-@$$ to follow.
Thanks

Not sure if my chicken legs will be able to handle the “5 minutes- 4.0 speed- 10 incline”. But I’ll definitely give it a try on Saturday, when I’m supposed to do 40 minutes of cross training anyway…

Congrats to Mr. Oliver on taking the UK job.
Sounds like this is something he really wanted, and he deserves to get what he wants. Good of him and happy he appreciated what the Bengals provided him.
We wish you the best.
Watch UK become good in football, (and im not a UK fan), but would be cool! Gotta always root for Bengals.

Went out last night and bought a new treadmill. Used to workout hard three times a week till I moved to Alabama about a year and a half ago. I did your treadmill workout this morning and for being almost 50 years old I was glad to make it through without stopping or falling off. I had never done much incline in the past so I really appreciate you helping to motivate me. (The pants getting tight helped also!) How is Odom’s and Reggie Kelly’s achilles doing?

Tired the workout Saturday and my legs gave out on me right before the increase to 9 incline.
It’s good workout and I’ll definitely try it again…

Keep trying
I’ve done it enough over the past few days that I can do it without stopping. I’m going to post another one soon.
