Congrats to Pierre

Colts WR Pierre Garcon
By John Thornton- True story, a few year ago, sports agent Brad Cicala called Charles Fisher and said that he had a D-3 WR that needed some guidance before he went to through the NFL Draft process. Charles and I run a company that helps guys get ready for the NFL. That kid was a young Pierre Garcon. He was coming from a small school so he was a little raw, but he was big and fast. I took him to work out with me at my little gym in Kenwood(Cincinnati), and after working out we took Pierre to a football field a few minutes away in Indian Hill. Charles put him through some combine type drills and things that NFL coaches look for in young WRs. After this, Charles took Pierre and his agent back to his house in Kentucky to watch some tape of Chad Johnson(now OchoCinco) and other top NFL WRs. This went on for a few days before they left and went back home. Long story short, and after a lot of hard work by Brad and Pierre, the Colts ended up drafting him in the 4th round and he found a way to stick on the team. With WRs Marvin Harrison retired this year and Anthony Gonzales getting injured, Pierre stepped up and has become one of the top young WR’s in the game.

JT,
Can you and Charles Fisher do the same with Jerome Simpson?? I read your old blog yesterday and you talked about how Simpson dominated in practice until he got hurt then he struggled after that his rookie season. Why can’t he see the field?

Simpson and Caldwell worked out with Charles Collins in Cali in the offseason last year.
Not sure how Collins compares to Fisher but I think Simpson is doing everything he can to get onto the field. It’s just not happening for some reason…

Nice story. As an alum of Mount Union, I’ve watched many games of Pierre. He was an excellent player that dominated at the D3 level. It is great seeing him succeed in the NFL.

Sometimes guys just need to change systems. He has talent, but maybe he can’t blossom here. Perceptions are hard to change in the NFL.

If Cincy isn’t going to release Simpson – then I truly hope he spends the offseason with Carson – pull an 85 and tell people you’re living with Carson and family.
I sent an email to Lance M in regards to the “drafting of a TE”…
“My problem with drafting one of the top two TEs is will they be used?
I know in concept Utecht was brought in as a TE that will be used by Palmer in this offense – but being injured we really never saw that… and that still makes me leary going forward with a #1.
Maybe Cincy should offer Dallas a #2 (or #3) + Daniel Coats (maybe they’ll bite on adding in Jerome Simpson) for Martellus Bennett.
Bring back Reggie Kelley.
Tell Chase Coffmann you’re now a WR, we all know how much most WRs in the league block anyway, so he can take 7yrs to learn WR blocking.”

JT:
Great story. The play of Garcon in the AFC Championship game was unreal; also considering all the thoughts that must be going on in the back of his mind. I am sure with all the Super Bowl hype coming up there will be many a human interest piece on Pierre and his home island of Haiti. I wish him well…

They just need to be creative with the TE position. Coffman was never a blocker in college. He stood up and lined up out wide. That being said, he cant play WR
