Droid is a keeper
January 12th, 2010 | Technology
A little tech update here…..I purchased the Verizon Droid phone last week to try it out for a week or so. I kept seeing all of the commercials and advertisements, so I wanted to give it a try. I already had the iPhone and the Blackberry Tour from Verizon, but I was looking for a new phone to replace one of those two. I like the iPhone a lot, I love the apps and how easy it is to navigate through the phone with a single touch. I’m also a Mac user so having the iPhone makes perfect sense for me to link everything up. The Blackberry is also a favorite of mine.
I have had a Blackberry for about five years now, and they keep getting better and better. I have two phones because one is my personal line and the other is for business, and casual use. I have a business card that I give to people all the time, so I need to be reached when I’m not in the office(Jockbiz). Anyway, it’s also an excuse to play with different gadgets. Blackberry messenger is something that my friends and i use a lot, so that’s another reason why I have kept the Blackberry for so long. But other than that, nothing else is really keeping tied to the Blackberry. The Droid did perform as advertised. I love the speed of it, I love the look of it, and I love the different functions that it has. One of my main problems with the iPhone is the coverage in some areas. Verizon is far superior to AT&T in that category. I will say this, the iPhone is further along than the Droid phone. The iPhone has been out for a few years now and is working on its 3rd or 4th model. I’m sure the Droid will improve and take the same improvements that the iPhone did. But as far as being a phone that does everything, the Droid delivers. Now I need to decide which two I will keep. It will be hard to ditch my iPhone, but right now the Droid is in my clubhouse with the Blackberry(which I had turned off), and the iPhone are fighting for the last spot.

I’m a loyal Verizon customer, so iPhone is not as much an option for me, but I was thinking about an iPod Touch. I understand they are pretty much the same. I guess the downfall would be in places were you don’t have wifi, you can’t download or connect. If you can somehow connect your iPod through your Blackberry or Droid, that would fix that problem, I don’t know if that is possible.
Having 2 phones, you have some flexibility.

JT,
I am a B2B rep for Verizon and have been them for 10 years. I assume this gives you my email address. Feel free to reach out if you want to know about the latest and greatest. Just wait for the Nexus One!!!

JT,
I LOVE my Droid! I’ve had it now for about 3 weeks and am VERY pleased with it. The O/S runs very smoothly and I have had no complaints so far.
Two accessories that I would recommend would be the Body Glove rubberized case (it tends to give a little traction when laying on a surface, plus feels better than plastic) and a Skinomi screen protector (with free lifetime replacement).

I have a phone, it works when I need it. Rarely have to charge the battery. That’s it. I think you guys put waaaaaaaaay too much emphasis on “gadgets”. Now, do you want to talk about jeans, boots & purses?? I’m all ears!!

I guess I’m old fashioned, I still use a land line…
I wonder what mobile company Daniel Snyder of the Redskins owns?
