Halloween Road Trip

November 1st, 2009 | College Football, Entertainment, Podcasts, Technology

Charles Fisher and I decided to take a short road trip to watch the Miami(OH) Redhawks vs the Toledo Rockets.  It was my first time on Miami’s campus.  Pretty cool place.  It’s in the middle of nowhere, but looks like High St can be a fun place to party after class and on the weekends.  The game day atmosphere was pretty weak.  Not really any buzz for the game, people were walking around like it was a normal day.  I understand that their team was winless, but usually colleges still are hyped up for games.  The play on the field wasn’t great either, but the two teams did compete and the game had a dramatic ending.  I had fun watching the game, I would go back again.  Check out this little video we took.  We shot it with the Flip ultraHD video camera…..

I went to Miami, it’s a very nice campus and it is kind of in the middle of no where, but not too far of a drive from the Cincinnati or Dayton area somewheres. I lived at home and commuted, I worked a lot, and didn’t really take part in the whole college experience. I only went to a few games, but they probably were a little more involved than this years games. I think there were about ¼ the number of fans there this year as when I went. I don’t think they get enough students to go and a lot more older alumni go to the games. More of a Reds game atmosphere than a College football game. Also, a lot of the more boisterous fans may have made the trip to OU for Halloween party weekend.

Miami is such a nice place and a quality school, they need more money in the athletic program so they can build better teams. They also need the MAC to do better. They just didn’t capitalize on Big Ben’s success like they should have. Same thing can be said for the basketball program, I went to school when we had Wally Szczerbiak, those were some good basketaball games. They do have a great hocky team, I’ve been meaning to go see them sometime.

I went to Miami when Big Ben was there and the games were crazy. They were packed and tough to get tickets. The next year it looked like it did in your video. There are more OSU fans at Miami then there are Miami fans. Yeah there Hockey team is always awesome.

Charles Fisher is a rabble rouser :) . I’ll bet when he played CB he was talking trash all the time :) .

Props to Miami on their first win . Give ‘em two years . They’ll have a good team. They’ve already got a promising QB . Good start for a turn around program . Probably pretty discouraging right now to look up and see a few fans in the seats.

Great video. Had me cracking up. Either it was really windy, or those were the worst cheerleaders ever. Keep this kind of stuff coming.

Yeah JT, You want to hit up a Miami Hockey game. Its night and day compared to the football game. The Hyped up crowd that you would get at say a WVU football game is the kind of crowd you get at at Miami U Hockey game.

A Rabble Rouser is a guy who gets things stirred up. He influences other peoples opinions . In this case it’s mentioned affectionately . In other cases it can be a derogatory phrase.

I’m interested in his playing days . Was he a trash talker at CB ?

Nah, he didnt talk trash on the field. He has a different opinion tho. We have good sports convos. I like Rabble Rouser tho :) He never means it in a derogatory way tho, kinda like a black Andy Furman :) stirs it up
