The Brett Favre Show

I would hate to be a Minnesota Viking player right now.  Coaches have been preaching TEAM all off-season, trusting each other, working out together, and developing camaraderie that will carry players past the summer and into the season.  But all along they were courting QB Brett Favre.  WHEN Favre arrives at the Viking facilities, it will be very awkward.  Current leaders on the team will be forced to choose sides between Favre and current QB’s Tavaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels.  Is Favre a better option than those two QB’s?  Probably so.  But remember, Favre was a better option than New York Jets QB Chad Pennington last summer too.  The Jets season ended horribly and Chad Pennington ended up leading the Miami Dolphins to the playoffs.  This better work out in Viking land or heads will roll just like they did in New York.  I love Favre, I love his hustle and drive to continue to play football.  But at some point he is going to have to let his teammates know early on if he is going to be their QB.  Waiting until the summer isn’t cool.  All players would love to be able to skip off-season workouts and show up in July, but players also get jealous of the guy who actually gets to do it.  They will eventually get along.  Winning is the only option now in Minnesota.  The bar is set pretty high.  They won their division last season without Favre, so going deeper in the playoffs this season is a must.

Childress covering his posterior,IMO. High risk with a below 50% chance of success. Rosenfels future is probably limited as a Vike QB . Jackson is going to be very good, MAYBE. Favre is a maybe also.

Go with the Kid . He might be a winner if given the chance.

Mr. Favre kind of reminds me of a old heavy weight champ that fights just one to many fights. As an older person myself nothing would please me better than to see him be very successful.(see George Blanda). Some how it doesn’t seem likely.

I don’t think Tavaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels are franchise QBs, if the rest of the team is good enough, then these guys can just play their role and not lose games. I think Rosenfels had great WR talent and a good run game in Houston so he played well as a back-up, Jackson didn’t have great WR talent, but he had a better OL and running game and receiving RB. Jackson is still young, but I would think he would have played better by now if he were more than a back-up QB. The Vikings passed on Jay Cutler, but really he would have given them what they need. I think they knew they would get Farve all along, that’s why they passed on Cutler. Farve really helped the Jets in the first half of the season, but then faded away. I thought it was either an age thing or a conditioning thing, but maybe it was the shoulder they fixed. If they believe it was the shoulder and it’s fixed, then Farve could do what Warner did for the Cardinals. If it wasn’t the shoulder, then they need to prepare to start one of the young guys and use Farve as a mentor and spot starter if the young guys struggle. Farve could be great in a late season stretch to lead them to the play-off and Superbowl, but I’m not sure he has it in him to play a full season.

I think Tav Jackson could be good if they took advantage of his mobility in the offensive gameplan. They havent. They are still running the same crap they were with that old statue they had back there a few years ago. I hate uncreative NFL offenses.
