Mailbag: How’s it been?
June 8th, 2009 | Personal
From Al,
JT, Long time no speak…Hows it going? r we gonna hear from u anytime soon? what do u make of Chads comments?
Al,
I’m still here man
Just on Blogging vacation. I will be back soon. It’s a dead period in football and I’m getting caught up on some baseball. Also working on a few things.
I was encouraged by Chads comments. I knew this would happen, that’s why I was miffed when some of his teammates and fans spoke out against him a few weeks ago. Hopefully Chad comes back and has a great year. The Bengals need him if they want to make the playoffs this season. With Chad coming back strong, he will be a true No. 1 WR and allow the other guys to slide into their roles as No. 2, 3, 4, 5 WR’s. Now the goal should be to build team chemistry and having fun. Playing “for” each other will be a big key in the season. That hasn’t happened much, but judging from what I’m hearing from a few guys, this team feels tighter than in years past.

So you didn’t appreciate Carson’s comments? Can’t argue with the results, sounds like it lit a fire under chads a**.

“Tighter” = close as family?
“Tighter” = practicing rigid?

Let me explain it again….I didn’t like the Carson comments because they were played in the national media as a Carson-Chad fight. Players and coaches at PBS love Chad and it’s just a matter of time before things are back to normal. So it really does the players no good speaking against Chad because he isn’t going to get traded or released. If you look at what is going on in Arizona, you will see that all of WR Anquan Boldin’s teammates are behind him even though he isn’t there. Same situation as it is in Cincinnati, but the news coming out of here is a little different. Kurt Warner even said he needs Anquan and would give up salary to get him a new deal. Will Kurt do that? Who knows, but it keeps things smooth when he comes back and the media can’t say there is a riff between QB-WR. I think the Bengals are doing things right this offseason and I don’t want a small distraction to turn into something big. Now I’m all for Carson laying down the law and stepping up as more of a leader. I think that will be good for the team. I even spoke to Carson by phone last week and can sense the excitement in his voice. He is ready for this season. Sounds like Chad is too

JT, I am also hoping that Chad’s words are serious and that he is fired up to have a great year again this year. I might actually believe it if he weren’t still hiding in CA. The Bengals are better with Chad at the top of his game than they are without him. But I also believe they would be better without him than with him like he was last year.

Thanx man! Im also really excited for this season, and yes the Bengals do need Chad if they want to get to the playoffs. He will make it alot eaiser on Coles, Henry and Caldwell and its IMPOSSIBLE to cover the Chad we know and love with Coles and Henry on the feild. Henry can beat every #2 or 3 CB in the NFL. I also dont understand why all the Radio Hosts want this guy outta town- You need him to win, Carson knows it Marvin knows it and Mike Brown knows it thats why he is still here!

Chad reported to camp today, which is not mandatory. He finally spoke to Geoff Hobson and said all the right things. Games are not won in June, but goodness, this is looking to be one very productive off season.

Are you surprised that Chad showed up to an OTA today that was closed to the media. He came in, did his work, and didn’t talk to the media. That has to be a good sign. Although his comments to bengals.com were a bit ridiculous.
“We’re like Brokeback Mountain. I’m going to be with Carson so much in July that I’m going to be the nanny (for his new twins).”

Will Chad 8-5 come back strong?
Is Chad really a #1 WR?
Is 8-5 a team builder or team buster?
I don’t honestly know the answers to these questions.
Frankly, I don’t care about what 8-5 says anymore… his mood and his words are a weighty as dandelion seed floating on the wind.

Chad is silly
I’m glad he came back. I’m not suprised. Last year he came back and was on board. Then he got hurt. Hopefully he stays healthy

Chad made a big step with me by coming in today. If he is in the condition he claimed to be in last week, having both him and LC on the field will make things tough on defenses. Add CH in 3-receiver sets, and that’s a lot of speed on the field. The O-line had better be ready, because the Steelers and Ravens will be blitzing like crazy, because it will be their only shot at stopping the passing game.

I respect your opinions. Good question. I think Chad is a No 1. He is the only No 1 on the roster if your think about it. all the other guys are 2’s and 3’s. I think he will help the other guys improve. they all love him and if he is on board, things will be much better

I think Chad really felt it was time to be back with the team. At the end of the day, he loves football. Being in LA training is good, but I’m sure that stuff gets old…..and expensive
working out here is cheaper and he can get paid doing it

JT,
When do yot think the Bengals will get serious about signing the first pick? Is it still way to early and we need to have 2-4 signed first?
