NFL Draft Tidbits
April 23rd, 2009 | On the clock

Two days away from the NFL Draft. I can feel the buzz. Every NFL team has a chance to draft a potential Hall of Fame player. They have a chance to draft a guy that can single handily change the franchise for the next ten years. But, every team has a chance to screw up their picks and set their franchise back a few years as well. That’s why the NFL Draft is a must see event. No other sport can say that. When was the last time you watched the MLB Draft? Or how about the NBA Draft? I used to love watching the NBA Draft, now I don’t even know the guys who are getting picked, and even worse, I can’t pronounce half of their names. There is no connection to the fans. Players leave after one season of college ball and are really not ready to contribute to their teams. So that makes for a boring draft. Ahhhh, what about the NHL Draft? I can’t wait for that one. They actually had one in Nashville when I lived there. The only thing I remember about it was that they made the traffic downtown pretty bad. The NFL Draft is almost as big as the Super Bowl, the only difference being that every team will come away feeling like they won.

J T ……..Well said no team loses.Kiper and all the boys suddenly tell us that every pick they have been finding fault with for the last 3 months are now a perfect fit.Well maybe someone will tell us the Bengals could have had their guy as a free agent if they would just have waited. All in all it is a fun day with no losers at least in the mind of the teams.

I love the draft. I even host a draft party with a draft contest (selecting the order of the top 15 selections regardless of team) every year. It is always a great time since I’m a Bengals fan that lives in Cleveland and all my friends are Browns fans. It makes for interesting commentary to say the least.

What do you think about the 49ers GM coming out and saying that someone will trade up for Andre Smith on Saturday? Smoke or is there some truth there?

I love the draft, and once it’s over I can move on to other things and stop obsessing about it. If the picks fall the right way, the Bengals have a shot to really get some guys to help move them to the next level

I can’t believe how big the draft has become! Can’t believe ESPN has been giving it primetime coverage every night! I wish they would talk about some other players instead of the usual suspects! Just heard Curry say he would take less money to be the number one pick, how refreshing! I’m a Curry fan now and hope we get him!

I was surprised that the two trade rumors with the Browns getting rid of Quinn or Edwards didn’t happen. I thought they would try to deal one or the other.
