Beanie blows it up

March 13th, 2009 | NFL

Ohio State RB Beanie Wells blew his Pro Day up.  From what I’m hearing(or seeing via text), Beanie was the star of the show.  Ohio State had a lot of potential NFL players on hand to showcase their talents to NFL scouts and coaches.  There were a few players that people came to see, but Beanie Wells and DB Malcolm Jenkins were the headliners.  I posted earlier that Ohio State is know for having a fast track.  In previous years top OSU players would have crazy 40 yd dash times but that’s not the case anymore.  OSU had three different surfaces for their players to run on.  They had a AstroTurf, which is a hard green surface, and players times will be faster if they choose to run on that.  You may remember those fields being used in the old NFL and College stadiums.  I hated to play on that stuff, it’s like playing on furry concrete.  Some of the lesser OSU guys ran on it today.  Lesser meaning guys expected to be lower picks, not lesser men of course.  The other OSU surfaces were field turf, which is actual playing surface.  One was green and one was red(I know, why red?) So kudos to OSU for giving the players a choice on fields to run on.  The top guys all ran on the field turf, which was a smart move because their times would be more legit.

Beanie was ran his 40 yd dash times in the 4.40-4.42 second range.  A few teams had him at 4.39.  And I hear that a team or two rounded up his time to the high 4.8′or so.  But they were in the minority.  He caught the ball well and had a good overall workout.  The thing that impressed NFL people the most was that Beanie weighed in at 237 lbs.  That was right around his NFL Combine weight.  Some players like to drop weight after the combine so they can run faster times when they get back to their school, but Beanie didn’t do that.  So I think teams will start to evaluate Beanie breathing a little easier because he ran better than his Combine time, which was in the 4.6 range.  He plays fast and strong on tape, so this workout will validate that.

I heard Woodson and Davis on NFL net talking about Galloway that he could probably run a 4.4 right now.It doesn’t seem likely but that is what they said. Also did you hear from the Deacons Bench(Deacon Jones) and his take on Chad Ocho Sinco?
