More on Ward
February 27th, 2009 | NFL
I was sitting waiting for my haircut when I heard him come on the radio. Basically he said that he is looking for money and carries. He said that he feels he is just as good than Brandon Jacobs. But he stopped short of saying he was better than Jacobs(I think out if respect), and he said he can catch the ball better. The guys on Sirius asked if he would sign in Cincy if they gave him what he wanted he said he would have to. But kept saying he wanted to keep his options open. The Browns, Giants, Rams are other teams on his list.

I don’t expect you to say it but Ward, like others, don’t want to come here. If they can eak out a similar deal somwhere else, they aren’t coming here.

JT,
I wonder if Cedric is just demanding too much. Benson ran hungry last year and IMO looked good. Ced is youger than Ward and proved he could carry the load last year. Ryan and the O did not do much to spread the field. This makes CB’s carries look even better. I do not see Mike B throwing Jacobs type $ at Ward. Wonder if this is a low ball offer to Ward, just to get the Benson deal done?

Ward is a great back but I hope they get C. Bensen. The guy is 3 years younger and has a year under his belt in the offense. We still need O-linemen.
I just heard they signed Crocker to a deal. Good to see he’ll be back, he plays hard.

I don’t think Ward is just a decoy. I think he’s their plan B for a veteran RB but I think they are also using him as leverage against Cedric. It will be interesting. You made some really good points.
Also, Derek Ward’s numbers look good but he was running behind the Giants line, not the Bengals and any moves for skilled position players that aren’t supported by fixing that offensive line will be a waste.
