This clip gives me goosebumps

January 29th, 2009 | NFL

I have to admit, I’m a big fan of the old NFL. I love watching old NFL tapes. I love watching clips of great players. I love how they talk. I love how they tell the story of how they played in “their day.” Today, football is very different. Players are overexposed, over hyped, and shoved into your face and made to be great players. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of great players in todays game, but it’s not quite the same. Case in point, look at the 2008 Pittsburgh Steelers(51 sacks). They have a great defense. Number one is pretty much every major statistic across the board. Do you ever think these Steelers will be compared to the 1985 Chicago Bears(64 sacks)? Will they be compared to the 70′s great Steeel Curtain teams(too old to record sacks)? Or even the 2000 Baltimore Ravens defense(35 sacks)? Probably not. Don’t worry about those sack numbers, I just looked them up to make myself feel like a real writer….they are correct numbers though.

Maybe its because those other teams had characters on their team. Guys like the Fridge, Mike Singletary, Ray Lewis, Mean Joe Green. Who knows? But I will even go as far to say that the Tecmo Bowl and Super Tecmo Bowl video games were better than todays games. John Madden’s game looks 100x better but not the same feeling. Who can remember playing with Lawrence Taylor or Ronnie Lott back then? You were unstoppable. Way more fun.
